Our Blessed Lord said He would establish a church against which, "even the gates of hell would not prevail!" Now, there are so many flavors of Christianity that exist today. Did He mean that He would start tens of thousands of churches that all call themselves Christian but disagree on some major points? I don't think so. Did He give anyone authority to represent Him and lead His Church? Yes! Read it in His Holy love letter to us (Sacred Scripture). When He renamed the apostle, Simon to Peter, He also gave Him the Keys to the Kingdom and the authority to bind and loose. Such authority would only be given to the representative of the king in ancient times on whom the keys to the kingdom would also be bestowed (see Eliakim in Isaiah 22).

Martin Luther entered history in 1517 when he founded the Lutheran church. After that the flood gates were opened for scores of Protestant denominations to pop up. After that we had Calvinists, Methodists, Anabaptists, Anglicans, Baptists and now thousands of denominations of non-denominational Christians. Today, there are more than 30,000 denominations who claim the title, Christian. But there is one Church that stands out amongst all those Christian Communions. The Catholic Church. The only one that can make the historical claim to be founded by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The only one that scholars agree and history confirms was the Church of the Earliest Christians. This is the one that was headed by the first Bishop of Rome, Peter, on whom the Church was built and to whom were given the keys to the kingdom of heaven and earth. And naturally, this office was not to die with him. These heavenly Keys and the authority that goes with them were passed down through the unbroken line of successors to the first Bishop of Rome, St. Peter.

This shirt turns heads and makes people think. Many people don't know who started their church. They may know about the Protestant Revolt and that Christians were almost entirely Catholic until 1517. They may acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior of the World but they don't have a faith that is rooted in history. They cannot honestly say, "Jesus Christ founded my church." While this shirt may make some angry, it gets people to consider the Catholic Church and its claims to be the one founded by Jesus and the one true faith with the fullness of revealed truth.

When I wear this shirt, I do not see it as a statement of in-your-face triumphalism. I simply want to make people think and perhaps open up a conversation about the Catholic Church and her truth claims.
